Today Ryder & Amies is run by the fifth generation of the Amies family, Carol’s sons Tony & Steven, and has grown from a simple tailors shop into the University Store it is today, serving students and tourists alike.
Tony, eldest son of Carol Amies (1940-2005) has been involved in the business from a young age working with his mother and father to grow and keep the traditional values of the business and association with the University of Cambridge alive.
Steven, youngest son of Carol Amies, has also been involved in the business from a young age working with his brother, mother and father, learning abut the business, developing the product range and managing the production and manufacturing side of the business. Steven lives in the Fenland area of Cambridge with his wife and young family.
In recent years Ryder & Amies have moved away from gentleman’s tailoring and increased manufacturing of the Academic Robes along with many other aspects of University outfitting, opening a small work room just outside of Cambridge. Due to the highly specialised nature of many of the products for sale, manufacturing these in-house and running their own embroidery machines, gives Ryder & Amies the flexibility to keep ranges for all of the colleges.
One of the largest suppliers of wool college scarves, with customers in the UK and overseas, Ryder & Amies stock all the Cambridge College scarves and manufacture to customers own designs. Click here to find out how to design your own scarf.
Ryder & Amies also offer a huge range of not only University of Cambridge ties but also many old school and military designs, certainly holding the best selection of ties in the area.
Ryder & Amies stock an extensive range of University of Cambridge licensed merchandise in a variety of styles and colours – hoodies, t-shirts, sweatshirts and children’s wear are all available in many sizes and make the perfect souvenir or gift.
